So if I am travelling with GPS in Everett, and I hear them talk, I can just hit the Department key, and all of the Everett stuff is scanning only. Two things make the 536HP the winner in my book.ġ) The ability to immediately lock an entire town. I'm still thinking about upgrading to a phase 2 scanner and may try Uniden again but I'm thinking the 996XTP2 may be all I need? There are great how to videos on youtube though.ScanBoston wrote:Gary and Scott, If one doesn't care about ever downloading a radio reference file or having a built in database instead he wants to build their scanner by hand what advantages does the 536HP have over the 996XTP2. Programming is a bit difficult without software.

You decide which systems/groups you want GPS to control, and then the scanner automatically locks and unlocks the sites or groups in your systems as you travel. Very useful if the volume is low, and if you're annoyed by priority cutouts. Programmed frequencies can be setup to change the display color when the channel is active. By far my favorite feature is the display alert. This is really easy to program when using the programming software that you must download from the Uniden website, it is money well spent. With an outside antenna I now hear the state. With the included antenna I could hear the local police and fire easily in my basement. However, we could get them to work on other devices, so I have to say this one isn't that great. I had a police officer (technician) try to help me set this up, but we still couldn't get local channels to work.Actually I don't think Uniden should have close call installed in a scanner. I love the scanner but the CLOSE CALL is a pain in the rear having to lock out channels every ten minutes or when passing a strong close call signal. The APCO channels come in nice and clear with no problems.

Once everything is setup the scanner is awesome plenty of room for thousands of channels.
